The Best Short Podcasts to Make You More Interesting

Inside:   Two of the best short podcasts I’ve found to keep me up to date on current events.  Now that I listen to them daily, I feel much more confident that  I can hold up my end of a conversation.  And I don’t have to worry about what to talk about at the dinner table anymore.

The Best Short Podcasts to make you more interesting!

Do you listen to podcasts?

A year ago, I didn’t really know what a podcast was. Now I LOVE them!

If you aren’t on the podcast bandwagon yet, you are getting left behind. There are podcasts on simply everything! Investing, organization, business, news, crafts…you name it – there’s a podcast for it.

Free, original and interesting content

With podcasts, you don’t have to listen to the same songs over and over on a radio station. You don’t have to wait to hear something that interests you. You choose what you want and when you want to listen.

When you subscribe to a podcast (it’s free, really), you automatically have the newest episode waiting for you as soon as it’s available.

With podcasts, you can wash dishes or garden, walk the dog or sew, or listen on your daily commute. I love that I can get other things done while I listen and learn.

The Best Short Podcasts to Make You Smarter

I’m only half joking about that headline. Listening to these two particular podcasts really does makes me smarter.  Current events for the day in little bite-sized allotments. I feel so much more confident knowing that I know enough about current events to keep up my end of any conversation.

My husband and I both listen to these and we always have something to talk about over dinner. Having conversations about something other than your nearly grown children is huge when you’re trying to adjust to the empty nest.

Without further ado, here are two of the best short podcasts I’ve found:

The Daily – The New York Times
At just 20 minutes a day, five days a week, this podcast keeps it short but gives you the details you need to really understand what’s going on in the world. I always listen to this podcast when I take my dogs for their morning walk. By the time I’m back making my coffee and feeding the dogs, I’ve had my dose of news for the day.

Up First – NPR
This podcast is even shorter and clocks in at about 10-12 minutes. This podcast gives you the biggest stories and ideas — from politics to pop culture — in 10 minutes. I always listen to this one when I’m brushing my teeth and getting ready in the morning.

Listening to Podcasts without a Smartphone

You don’t even have to have a smartphone or iPod to listen to a podcast. You can listen to podcasts on anything that plays MP3s, like your computer or tablet.  Click on the links above to listen to The Daily or Up First on your computer

Could not be any easier!
