Intermittent Fasting Apps Review

As intermittent fasting for weight loss becomes more popular, the Apple and Android stores are introducing more and more app choices to make your fasting life easier.

If you look through this list you’ll find the perfect fasting app for iPhone, or just the right fasting app for Android. I’ve also included a fasting tracker online in case you don’t want to use your smartphone.

Some of these apps are only available for Android, some are only available for iOS, but most work across both platforms.

Some of the fasting apps are completely free, others have paid versions and some even have a weekly coaching subscription you can upgrade and pay for.

This review of fasting apps will help you pick the one that works best for your style of intermittent fasting so you can start tracking and start fasting now.

Fasting App Review Criteria

Some of these apps I personally use or have tried out. For the others, I have compiled reviews from my health-minded IF friends, and other internet research.

For each review, I looked at:

  • Features of the Free Version
  • Premium Features
  • Pricing
  • User Reviews
  • Ease of Use

After sorting and scrolling through scads of these apps (who knew there were so many!) for both iPhone and Android, I’ve narrowed down the best ones to a short list of the eight top fasting apps.

I have to report that they all do pretty much the same thing.

Pretty much all the apps provide similar reminders, tracking, and notifications. Most allow you to store some fasting history, and some you can sync to your Apple Watch if you have one.

There’s honestly not much difference between the different apps for the free plans, so it’s really up to you to pick the app that has the best look and feel for you.

If you want to pay for the premium version, you can choose from personal coaching, more fasting plans, the ability to store more data and more.

Most are available on both platforms, and my number 8 choice is a web app you can download to use on your computer.

So let’s get started!

1. Zero Fasting App

This is the app that I personally use.

It’s my favorite because it’s simple, does just what I need it to do and it’s free. (This is one of the only apps that does not have a premium version.)

This free fasting app is a simple tracker for intermittent fasting, circadian rhythm fasting (fasting from sundown to sunrise), and custom fasting.

I LOVE that it’s called Zero – which is another reminder of exactly the amount of food you should be eating during your fasting window.

It comes with 5 preset fasts and one custom fast if you like to do things your own way. You can log your activity, earn badges for streaks, and track your weight loss.

It has a separate section called “Learn” where you can read articles, watch videos and learn more about the health benefits of fasting.

2. BodyFast

Similar to most of the other apps, BodyFast allows you to track your fast, provides notifications, tracks your fasting history and has a streak tracker which can be motivating if you’re a new faster.

This app also integrates “Trophies” which you can earn for meeting your goals during the week, and for being consistent week after week.

Along with 10 free fasting plans, this app offers a premium plan starting at $1.35 per week where you can get personalized guidance from a coach.

I haven’t tried the paid version, but you may want to check it out if you would like to have the accountability of a coach.

3. LIFE Fasting Tracker

Along with all the usual notifications, trackers and timers, this app estimates when you have entered the fat burning zone.

This app adds a social aspect by being able to fast with circles of friends and has a news feed you can post your progress to.

I could totally see using this app if I had a group of friends who wanted to all keep each other accountable on a fast.

9. Not on a phone? Try Fastient

Fastient is a fasting tracker that you can download to your smartphone, OR use a web app from your computer. So if you’re not so much into the iPhone or Android scene, you can still use it to track your fasts.

How to Choose the right Fasting App

So as you can see, most of these apps are VERY similar. Since almost all of them have a free version, you can download and try them without any risk. If it doesn’t work for you, simply delete it from your phone and try another.

I’ve been successfully using the forever free Zero app for a while now and it does everything I need and more.

You can find links to all these fasting apps in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Looking for more recommendations, check out these Intermittent Fasting Reviews of programs I’ve tried.
