Kombucha flavors can be as varied as your imagination. Here are recipes for some of my favorite kombucha flavors that you can make yourself, drink up and enjoy.
Best Kombucha Flavors
I’ve been making kombucha for a while now and I really love it. I thought it was a bit “granola”, but when my kids’ friends started making it, I knew it had finally hit the mainstream. When my daughter’s friend came home from college and asked if I could spare some of my kombucha mother, I thought I had finally arrived as a cool mom!
I love kombucha and all the different kombucha recipes you can try. I love the taste, the bubbly goodness, and I love what it does for my gut health.
Kombucha has been around for thousands of years. Kombucha is basically a fermented tea. A large amount of probiotic bacteria is also produced during fermentation, along with some carbonation and a super teeny tiny amount of alcohol.
It’s the probiotics that make Kombucha a wonder drink. Drinking kombucha can help heal your gut and it has so many other health benefits – it contains antioxidants, probiotics, and can help fight bacteria and heart disease.

Can You Really Make Kombucha at Home?
The answer is yes, and it’s surprisingly easy. I’ve done it the hard way (creating my own kombucha from scratch), and the easy way (buying a kit), and both turn out amazing and it’s about 1000% cheaper than store bought kombucha.
So if you’ve vowed to try to improve your gut health, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.
This kit from Amazon has everything you need to make your first batch, including the tea, SCOBY (symbiotic culture of yeast and bacteria), and even the glass bottles with pop on lids.
If you already have bottles, you can also just purchase the basics: starter tea and a SCOBY.
My Favorite Kombucha Flavors
One of the best things about making homemade kombucha (besides the price…) is the practically unlimited number of kombucha flavors you can concoct.
You can use almost any fruit, spice, and herb combination. If you have kids in the house, get them involved in coming up with some flavors they’ll like. It’s a sure fire way to get them to love kombucha as much as you do.
Here are a few of my favorite recipes for this amazing, healthy and delicious drink!
1. Ginger Kombucha
This homemade ginger kombucha recipe from the Wild Gut is the perfect mix of sweet and gingery tastes.
Adding the spicy zing of fresh ginger really takes the bubbly freshness of kombucha up a notch. The key here is using the freshest ginger you can find. Grate the ginger if you like things extra spicy, or slice it into rounds if you want to start off a little less zesty.
Ginger kombucha, gingerade kombucha, ginger ale kombucha…..whatever you call it, it tastes great.
From helping nausea to its anti-inflammatory properties, ginger is another heavy hitter in the health world. Kombucha and ginger are just like Batman and Robin when it comes to fighting for your good health. Yummy too!
2. Hibiscus Kombucha
This hibiscus kombucha recipe from Create Mindfully is both healthy and jewel toned gorgeous!
Hibiscus makes the most gorgeous kombucha! And it’s not just pretty. Humans have been using hibiscus for its medicinal properties since the ancient Egyptians.
Hibiscus can lower your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. It also can help boost your immune system and heal wounds faster. DO NOT drink hibiscus anything if you are pregnant or breastfeeding though.
I have three hibiscus shrubs growing around my house. I love that something so beautiful in my yard can become such a healthy addition to my kombucha.
3. Mixed Berry Kombucha
Dishing up Balance created this easy mixed berry kombucha recipe.
This is one of my go-to recipes because I almost always have frozen berries in my freezer. Every time I’m at Costco I pick up a bag just to make sure I have enough for all the smoothies and kombucha we make around here.
The berries add both color and taste and make it one of the most popular kombucha flavors.
The mixed berry flavor is probably the most popular with my teenagers. I think it’s a big win when I can get my big kids to join me on my healthy living quest. It’s a great starter flavor if you are introducing a friend to kombucha.
4. Kombucha with Chia
The recipe for this copycat berry chia kombucha was created by Nourishing Simplicity.
The very first time I had kombucha was a bottle of GT’s Synergy Raspberry Chia Kombucha. It was love at first sip. The raspberry flavor combined with the little chia seeds really hooked me.
What I did not love was the price. $3.00 a bottle on sale was too much for me to spend on a healthy drink I wanted to add to my diet every day! You can make your own chia kombucha for less than a dollar a bottle, so you can drink it every day if you want.
Chia seeds are another amazing health food you didn’t know you needed! Not only do they make great pudding, they are high in antioxidants, fiber, calcium, and Omega-3s.
Drink up, but check your smile in a mirror afterward because these little buggers can really get between your teeth!
5. Strawberry Mint Kombucha
The recipe for this gorgeous kombucha blend is from Beets and Bones.
This recipe is another favorite of my kids. Simple and yummy.
It’s just so deliciously berry flavored with a hint of mint. Makes for a really pretty presentation too if your dinner guests are up for some gut health help.
This was the second of the list of kombucha flavors I’ve tried and it still never lets me down. The mint just feels so refreshing when added to a batch of kombucha.
6. Blueberry Mojito Kombucha
Making Thyme for Health created this delicious take on a mojito.
This recipe takes a bit longer because you make a syrupy blueberry sugar mint mixture before you add it to your kombucha for its secondary fermentation. The extra time is worth it though.
This flavor is yummy and makes for a gorgeous refreshing cocktail-like drink when served with some fresh berries and a lime wedge.
And this healthy cocktail won’t give you a hangover either!
7. Spiced Apple Kombucha
The recipe and instructions for this spiced apple kombucha were created by Intoxicated on Life.
If the summer heat is getting you down and you want a healthy kombucha that reminds you of cool fall days, this recipe is for you!
Cinnamon, cloves and fresh ginger give this apple kombucha a fall-like twist. It just smells so good! Who needs a pumpkin spice latte when you can have a refreshing glass of bubbly goodness that you made yourself. Apples and cinnamon are a great combination wherever they are.
Easy Kombucha for First Timers
These recipes are really simple to DIY, but if you’re a beginner, here’s an easy way to get started.
If you really want to try your hand at making kombucha, you can buy DIY kombucha kits like this one.
Kits like these have everything you need to make your first batch of booch – from the glass jar all the way to the kombucha starter. It’s a great way to get your feet wet and try out brewing your own first batch. I’m pretty sure you’ll be hooked once you taste your first homemade batch and discover just how easy it is to whip up a healthy batch of kombucha.
If you’re on the fence, I encourage you to give it a try! I love the feeling that I’m in on a centuries-old secret for good health every time I mix up a new batch of kombucha!
Which of these kombucha flavors would you like to try? No matter which you choose, you know it will be a healthy, immune boosting, gut healthy drink!
